Second Service Speaker Series - Tammy Duckworth
POSTPONED - Due to inclement weather, the Center for Second Service Speaker series event featuring Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth has been rescheduled from March 6th to April 10th. Our sincere apologies go out to all those who already made plans to attend. The Center for Second Service will resume hosting distinguished speakers on the first Wednesday of each month starting in May. The Second Service Speaker Series is your opportunity to hear from those whose dedication to service remains paramount, both in and out of uniform.
Currently representing Illinois’ 8th Congressional district, Duckworth graduated from George Washington University with a Masters of Arts in International Affairs. As an Army National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk co-pilot in Iraq in 2004, Duckworth lost her right leg near the hip and her left leg below the knee from injuries sustained when the helicopter she was co-piloting was hit by a rocket propelled grenade fired by Iraqi insurgents. She will address attendees at the George Washington University on April 10th and discuss her experiences both serving in uniform, and as an elected official. There is no cost to attend these events, but space is limited so interested parties should sign up quickly.
